- Canadian Premiers sign national energy strategy after three years of talks. The plan calls for policies to increase energy efficiency, reduce greenhouse gases and advance new technology. Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne said the premiers struck the right balance. A strong economy and environmental protection are not mutually exclusive, she said. – July 2015
- Power Efficiency and Resiliency Act (POWER Act) must be extended to ensure that combined heat and power (CHP) and waste heat to power are treated in a manner that is on par with other energy technologies covered by the investment tax credit. Installation of CHP and waste heat to power systems requires an initial investment, which companies recoup within a few years. The POWER Act aims to incentivize that investment.
- Energy retrofits become an investment vehicle. Efficiency Capital Corp. plans to finance $100 million in projects, reaping paybacks through energy savings. The idea comes from the Toronto Atmospheric Fund (TAF). This city agency, armed with the goal of financing local initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, pioneered the investment tool. - Princeton University is at the frontier of energy sustainability. As a major university, it has the opportunity to research and invest in new technology across many sectors. As an environmentally conscious institution, it has chosen not only to fund research, but also to turn its own site into a model of sustainability. At the centre of this, is an 80% efficient 15 megawatt cogeneration plant. – Sustainable Busines Magazine, January 2015
- It’s easy for investors to forget that the world’s economy still relies on old-school industrial companies. Making computers, tablets, and phones — not to mention train cars, jet engines, and truck chassis to ship those products to a store near you — requires transforming raw materials into parts, machines, and other necessary equipment. Some have been making the same kind of products they have for decades. But don’t let that fool you — these companies are still innovating and growing according to aFederal Reserve Report. – Motley Fool Stock Advisor, March 2015
- The waste heat recovery market will reach $53.12 billion by 2018. Europe dominates the market, accounting for a major share of about 38% in 2012. The major players will continue to hold respective positions by joint ventures/collaborations & partnerships and by new technology development.

(New York Times, June 2014) Sofame’s industrial waste heat recovery systems contribute significant reductions to these environmentally conscious companies.
- While it costs slightly more to design the MaineGeneral Alfond Center for Health to LEED Gold standards to be “green” and more energy-efficient, the payback is more than worth the extra costs upfront, and greatly reduces the facility’s environmental impact. The efficient design elements of the new hospital will ultimately save $900,000 in annual operating costs and 12 million gallons of water a year.
